Delegation of Namibia visited the port of Leixões

Possible partnerships between the Port Authority of Douro, Leixões and Viana do Castelo (APDL) and the Namibian port infrastructure were discussed during a visit by a delegation from Namibia to the port of Leixões. The APDL considered the visit as “of great interest, not only because of the involvement and relations we have with the ports of the African continent, but also because of the development that Namibia has been experiencing at port activity level.”

The meeting was attended by the Namibian Ambassador to Portugal, members of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Development of SMEs in Namibia and about 30 port representatives and logisticians in Namibia, among other individuals.

More can be done for women in Namibia

WINDHOEK-Namibia has been conferred the African Gender Award 2017 for its outstanding achievements in promoting gender equality and protection of women rights.

President Hage Geingob received the award as a top performing country in Africa by the African Gender Forum, within the context of the Gender Is My Agenda Campaign (GIMAC). Ex-Liberian president Ellen Johnson Sirleaf handed over the African Excellence Gender Awards for 2017 to President Geingob, during a state banquet in Windhoek.

Geingob said more can be done for women in Namibia.

“But the progress we have made in promoting gender equality and the empowerment of women in our society is something we should be proud of. It is why, on behalf of the Namibian Government and the people of Namibia, I would like to thank GIMAC and the people of Africa for recognizing our modest efforts in promoting gender equality through different policy initiatives and interventions,” he said.

“Our commitment to gender equality is visible when you look at the important role women play in politics, including our executive and legislature”.

During the two-year tenure of the GIMAC Award, President Geingob said he will commit himself to champion the theme: “Women’s Empowerment and Inclusive Governance” which signal the country’s continued intent to increase the participation of women in all spheres of socio-economic life.
